Westside Presale Services Forest Health Project – Republic, Washington

LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon completed the presale services for 31 units selected for treatment to reduce fire risk and to address pest damage for the USFS in Republic, Washington.  These services included unit layout, unit boundary flagging, unit GPS mapping, development of logging systems worksheets with maps, and boundary painting.  The timeline of this contract was meant to span two seasons: 2019 and 2020.  After work on the contract began, there was a desire by the Forest Service technical staff to complete the contract sooner if possible.  To address this desire, LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon accelerated the work plan for project work and completed all work in fall of 2019, one complete field season ahead of schedule.  This allowed the Forest Service flexibility to potentially put the units out for public auction in spring of 2020.

Through the life of the project, LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon worked closely with Republic District staff to ensure that work completed by LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon met Forest Service objectives and that any changes needed were quickly addressed.  This included the LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon project manager meeting with the COR at the District Office, or in the field, 2-3 times per week while field activities were underway.  LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon also provided the COR with a weekly work deployment schedule showing where LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon field personnel would be working and objectives for the week.  This gave the COR ample time and flexibility to schedule inspections and to provide input to LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon staff as work was being performed.

LEI Engineering & Surveying of Oregon is excited to been a part of this project to improve the health of our national forests and reduce the risk of forest fire.
